Why Asymmetri

Why Asymmetri?

Asymmetri is named for the idea that a small team can find an advantage without simply getting bigger. We’re pursuing that through two areas: Asymmetri Sport, starting with Motion, and Asymmetri Work, starting with BotSquad.

What matters in the tools we build

Begin with a real task
A pitch to review. A piece of software to build. Start there, and make the tool useful for the person doing it.
Show how a result was reached
Keep the source close to the result, whether that’s a video frame or an AI worker’s notes. Make it possible to check.
Leave room for judgment
A coach knows things a camera cannot. A person reviewing AI work can question its assumptions. The tool should help them make that call.

It began in baseball

It started with time spent watching pitches.

As a baseball coach and division coordinator, I recorded deliveries on my phone and went through them frame by frame. We would try a small adjustment, record again and compare. It helped us see things we could talk about at practice.

Getting useful information out of those recordings took time. That led to Motion, and to the question behind Asymmetri Labs: what could someone do with the tools they already have, if those tools were a little more useful?
